Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, Romina Khurshid Alam says efforts are being made to set up a mountaineering school in Skardu. She was chairing a second review meeting in Islamabad regarding Prime Minister's Committee to Establish Mountaineering School in Gilgit-Baltistan. She said the school will have structured training and educational facilities including mountaineering, Sherpa training and sustainable tourism practices to promote environmental-friendly mountaineering, climbing and mountain tourism. Prime Minister's climate aid said establishing such facilities would help equip aspirant mountaineers and mountain climbers with the knowledge, while respecting the local environment, values and cultures.
